- It guards You Against False Teaching- This is because God’s truth is the only power that can effectively offset and destroy doctrines of demons. All false doctrine has, in fact, erred from the truth. Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.
- It Increases Your Level of Discernment– Revivalist Charles Spurgeon said this: “Discernment is not just knowing the difference between right and wrong, it’s knowing the difference between right and almost right.” This applies to matters of faith and life. The more time we spend in the Word, the more the Word will be able to take root in our lives. Our level of discernment will be commensurate with our time spent in the study of His Word.
- It is Able to Make You Wise unto Salvation—Bible study will help you to reinforce the truth that Christ is to be the focal point of our faith. Jesus Christ is the centerpiece of the Bible. Bible study will also give us a fuller appreciation of this great salvation in which His grace has made us a part. There is no greater wisdom we receive through the earnest study of God’s word concerning who we are in Christ.
- It Keeps Us from Wrongly Dividing the Word of Truth– Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. [2 Tim. 2:15] As we study His Word, the Holy Spirit will guide us to the truth. The Holy Spirit will never promote, confirm, or approve that which is not the truth. Because He is the Spirit of truth, this is what He reveals. If any teachings do not line up with Scripture, it is to be rejected.
- It Will Bless You When It’s Principles Are Applied– The Word of God will never be able to accomplish its desired effect in our lives unless we apply to our lives what we have received. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do, [James 1:25] How you view the Word of God will determine the place it holds in your life.
CONCLUSION
The Bible was arranged by God to be our operations manual for life. It is to be studied not just read with no intent. The psalmist said the following:
The law of the Lord is perfect, convicting the soul. The testimony of the lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statues of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart. The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever. The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold, sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in the keeping of them there is a great reward. [Psalm 19:7-11]
Are you treating the Bible with respect? Do you study the Bible every day, and if not, do you plan to? When you are in God’s Word, does it give you comfort?
