DO IT ANYWAY

mother Teresa mural on wall

Many years ago, I saw a picture of Mother Teresa which came from a sign on the wall of Shishu Bhavan, the children’s home in Calcutta. The quotes on this picture touched me so much that I keep this picture near by as a reminder of how I should act. I think many people will agree with me that Mother Teresa was one of the greatest modern-day saints with the love and compassion she shared with all of God’s people. Her heart was just overflowing with God’s love, and anyone could see that she was one of God’s prized vessels.

In today’s world many people try to impress their human counterparts with showy deeds. They feel to be successful they have to always outshine or discredit their fellowman or competitors. Very few people understand that God looks at the heart and motives, not showy, flamboyant acts.

It is a shame, but most people are self-centered and prideful and are only thinking of themselves. They find it very difficult to take themselves out of the equation and to think about someone else. But they will be in for a big revelation later when they stand before God. For in His word, He says He will bring down the proud and exalt the humble. And in Proverbs He actually says that pride is one of the seven things he hates the most. In another place, it is written that prideful people will be burnt up like straw. Proverbs 16:5 says everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD.

So, it is best to be humble. In Psalm 51:17, it is written that the sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. In Proverbs 16:19 says Better it is to be of humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. And in proverbs 16:24 it is written Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

Here are the words on the sign titled do it ANYWAY

People are unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered.

Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.

Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies.

Succeed anyway.

The good you do will be forgotten tomorrow.

Do Good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.

Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.

Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you help them.

Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth.

Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

CONCLUSION

There are many things we do to please our fellowman without considering if what we do pleases God. But to please God, we need to follow the example Jesus set for us. The Bible tells us that Jesus perfectly pleased the Father in thought, purpose, and action. And that is what we should seek to do. Our ultimate goal in life should be to please God. Let us all be motivated to be more Christlike so we can produce the Fruit of the Spirit as written in Galatians 5:22 and 23. Take your focus off your own problems and help someone else. That is how God will give you peace.
