Sushi is a cat who is a member of our family. The is my daughter’s cat, but she has a special relationship with the rest of our family. I consider her as my little granddaughter. In addition to being adorable, Sushi is quite manipulative. She can look at you with her dreamy eyes and just make your heart melt. I find it quite fascinating that she knows how to get each of us to give her some food. And if we are not communicating with each other, she will be successful. We have a standing joke that she constantly is looking for her 3rd breakfast.
We have an assortment of names for Sushi, like Fat Momma, Sushi Momma, Puddin’, Whooshu, Cupcake, and others. But the one I think she should have is Slick because she is always trying to pull the wool over someone’s eyes.
She is lovable and likes to be stroked and rubbed on the head, but she is also fiercely independent. She often likes to go off in a quiet secluded place and just chill or take long naps. I love to see her stretch and yawn. Her moves seem almost human. I have refrained from picking her up, but my daughter (her mommy) has perfected a way to cradle her in her arms without Sushi squirming too much, and will even let us get a few kisses in before she jumps down and hisses. Sushi used to sleep next to me on a regular basis, but now since we have relocated, she does it very seldom. However, she does not hesitate to jump on my bed and give me a nudge at 5 AM to let me know she is hungry. Or if I am working at my desk she will approach me and walk over all my papers on the adjacent bed and just park herself there.
But I have no complaints. I feel blessed to have a little cat companion. She makes me smile and sometimes laugh, even though she can be a little irritable at times. But, we all have our moments, don’t we? I often laugh when my daughter tells her she better get a job because she eats so much.
It seems that we are growing old together which reminds me of the movie The Green Mile where the retired prison guard grew old with his pet mouse. I guess, you never know who you will be paired with. I just know that I want to keep Sushi living as long as I can. To see her pass away would be devastating to me. I love her so much.
