In the book, God’s Plan for Man by Finis Jennings Dake salvation is characterized by mainly addressing sixty areas. I will attempt to discuss each of these areas. These areas were listed on this blog post on October 13, 2021. Today, I would like to discuss #27 Mortification.
Mortification is a change of practice, a new conduct before God.
The following are some scripture verses associated with Mortification:
Romans 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
Col. 3: 4-5 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanliness, inordinate (unnatural) affection, evil concupiscence (desire) for which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience.
Col. 3: 9-10 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in the knowledge after the image of him that created him.
Col. 1:12 -17 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And le the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing (urging) one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Mark 11:24 And Jesus answering said unto them. Do ye not know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?
Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
1 John 4:19 We love him because he first loved us.
CONCLUSION
Mortification is a change of practice, a new conduct before God. When we are born again, we put on a new man which is focused on pursuing righteousness.
