A YEARLY STUDY OF SALVATION- SUBSTITUTION

open bible

In the book, God’s Plan for Man by Finis Jennings Dake salvation is characterized by mainly addressing sixty areas. I will attempt to discuss each of these areas. These areas were listed on this blog post on October 13, 2021. Today, I would like to discuss #16 Substitution.

Substitution is a change of victims, a new sacrifice to God.

Some of the associated scriptures are as follows:

Genesis 22:8   And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

Genesis 22:13   And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.

Hebrews 10: 9, 10, 12    Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. But this man, after he has offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God.

Hebrews 10: 14-16  For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us; for after that he had said before, This is the covenant I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds, I will write them.

1 Corinthians 5:7   Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ, our Passover is sacrificed for us.

Romans 12:1,2   By the mercies of God, present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Hebrews 13:15   By him, therefore, let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

CONCLUSION

Substitution is a change of victims, a new sacrifice to God. Jesus willfully offered himself as a sacrifice for us so we could escape perdition and instead have everlasting life. And since Jesus’ sacrificial death, there has been no need for animal sacrifices.
